The Plaid Hibiscus

A few years ago, I went shopping for proper interview attire and found these super cute and comfy plaid heels at Payless.  Unfortunately, I never actually wore them because insecurity set in as I magically became 6 feet tall when I put them on in the morning of my very first nursing job interview.  Turned out to be a great interview and I got the job, so I guess I can’t complain too much.

Around the same time as the purchase of those heels, I went to Anthropologie to pick-up some wind chimes I had purchased online and sent to the store.  Naturally, I walked around the store because one cannot simply go to Anthro and not browse through every corner of that store (duh).  I decided to again go out of my comfort zone and try on these pair of tropical printed shorts that were a tad high-waisted.  I had just moved to Tampa and wanted to expand my fashion horizons, so why not start with some obnoxious floral printed shorts?  Seemed like a nice way to ease into expansion at the time.  *inserts nervous laughter here.*

During orientation at my brand new job, I met a couple of girls who invited me out to watch the hockey game at Ferg’s in Channelside.  I wore these shorts with a tight white shirt and to my surprise, received a lot of positive comments.  I also happened to slip and slide straight into the back of some girl’s legs as I was walking to the bathroom, so that was fun.  I literally head-butted the back of this girl’s knees.  Thank GOD we were both sober (don’t you give me that look, yes, I AM that clumsy when sober).

So here’s this new person in town, wearing floral shorts and busting ass in front of about 1,000 people. Welcome to Tampa, homegirl.

How many of you are skeptical of this outfit right now? *Kate slowly raises hand up.*

Now, before you click away from this blog, just take a look at some high-fashion runway models.  Their outfits make no sense.  This outfit makes no sense.  But I’m all about being bold, so just trust me, okay?
